Version 1.60 of PageFour is now available for download. This is the release version, not a beta, and all accompanying documentation has been updated. A complete list of new features and changes is shown below.
- New Search feature. The old search dialog has been replaced with a more integrated system which allows for searching across folders and notebooks.
- Merge Pages. A new mechanism has been put in place to merge pages, or folders of pages together. This is expected to speed up the process of converting various pages and folders into a single completed work.
- The word count has been enhanced by the addition of a Folder Word Count which is located on the right click Notebook menu and the Tools menu. It enables word totals to be taken for entire folders of pages.
- Right click menu ‘Open in Tabs’ added, enabling an entire folder of pages to be opened simultaneously into different tabs.
- All On / All Off added to the View menu with an accompanying shortcut key combination of Ctrl+O - a quick method of filling the screen with the word processor by closing all other sections of PageFour with one click.
- Smart Quotes on/off switch. This forms part of the new Word Processor page on the Options dialog. Smart Quotes are off by default, but can be switched on when needed.
- Background colour and left and right margins are now adjustable, also from the Word Processor page of the Options dialog.
- Option to switch automatic URL detection off and on.
- Lesser used menu items removed where the option still exists in other parts of PageFour. (Tabbed Pages on View menu for example).
- Various bug fixes as reported by PageFour users.
This marks the completion of version 1.60. It was not possible to implement all features requested, but most of the changes made are in response to feedback over the past few months. Any issues or questions about this release, do contact me, or leave a comment here on the blog.

Darren, thanks for the updates.
I haven’t installed it yet since I am in the process of getting a new UMPC
but will upgrade my desktop version and let you know how it works out.
I’m especially looking forward to the all on/all off feature while using PageFour on my soon (but not soon enough) to arrive UMPC.

I could have sworn I accidentally turned on a function in Page Four once where I had two pages open in side-by-side panes. Am I imagining this from another program, or if it is a Page four feature, how do I access it? Thanks.

Thanks, Darren, for the fabulous update… I can’t say enough good things about PageFour. The new version’s search is just what I needed.
I’d be happy to write a review or two to help spread the word - just let me know what places you think might be best…

Aaron, looking at the size of some of those small screens, I’d say you’ll definitely need it.
You must be imagining things Jane. There’s tabs, but no panes in PageFour.
Dan, I love reviews. The best place to post them would be Download.com. This site always seems to hit close to the top of the page with Google for reviews, and people seem to trust them. Look forward to reading it.

Hey Darren,
I just submitted my review on Download.com. Haven’t seen it appear yet. Likely they run it through a screening process first. I think it reads very positively. Nothing embellished. I’m a big fan of PageFour and my experience here on your site. Hope it helps you out…

Very nice. Darn Giveawayoftheday! I might be purchasing soon, but I won’t have my computer for a while.

About printing. I was able to find the page numbers setting in the template I like to use. But it looks like I can’t have the pages numbered across Pages. Is that correct?
Like, I have my Wight Water notebook. And within that notebook I have a Page called Part 1 and a Page called Part 2. Can I print these so that the numbering for Part 2 continues where Part 1 left off?

Magess - if you want to print consecutive page numbers across multiple pages or folders, you need to use the “Selected Pages and Folders” option on the print menu. This is simply a case of multi-selecting two or more pages, or an entire folder, and then using that particular print menu option. The same print template will be used, and the page numbers will continue across each page.
Hope this helps.

It does indeed. Thanks Darren.

Darren, the review just went up on downloads.com. Longer than I remember writing…

That’s a great review Dan - it might be just a little too complimentary though. Maybe that’s the reason it took them so long to publish - they had to make sure you weren’t me in disguise trying to push my own software. You weren’t wearing shades and a dark hat when you posted it were you? - cause that might have looked suspicious.
Interesting suggestion though about double clicking on a tab to close the page. I can see how that could be handy.
Thanks!

Well, truth be told, it was human error on my part. I hadn’t hit the final “go submit” now button. You know, the one that prominently displayed at the very bottom of the page behind some type of disclaimer?
I didn’t want to be gushing, I just have had a great experience with the product. And I thought the shades and dark hat looked good on me. Purely coincidental.
On the tab setting, the idea isn’t mine. Firefox has the functionality and it’s a terrific time saver when browser sites in multiple tabs…
Well, hope the review gives you some added business…

Darren;
I must say how well the Show/Hide All works on the UMPC. That was a great feature that I never thought I would need until I decided to get one.
Thanks for your forethought.
With the addition of the small form factor of the UMPC and a bluetooth keyboard, I can write wherever or whenever instead of just on my desktop at home.

Glad you like it Aaron. I wasn’t sure anyone else would be interested at the time, but it seems to be going down well.

Hi Darren,
I really like the ability to change the background color of the text screen.
But it’s only appearing on new pages. How can I change the background color for pages I created previous to installing version 1.60?
Thanks!
Andrea

Andrea, that should not be happening at all. When you change the background colour, it’s PageFour’s word processor that changes, not the page itself, and it changes for every open tab and all future tabs. This means that if you export the page and open it in Word, it will still be white.
For this reason, it should not matter when the page was created. The only exceptions are snapshots, which will continue to appear in their slightly off white colour.
The background colour works fine for me. All I can suggest is that you close PageFour, reopen it, and try changing the colour again.

Hello Darren,I think your software is exactly what I’m looking for and I’m itching to download it.
Just one BIG question though…. will it work on Windows Vista?
I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
