Weird Left Margin Slippage Occurring

Hey Darren,

I imported my notebook (originally created on my main pc)from a WD passport to my laptop (after loading the software onto my laptop.) No problem, files came up just great. I'm working with several tabs. As I'm typing away in one tab, I seem to slowly be losing the left margin--as in the words on the left side of my typing have disappeared all the way down the length of the document--maybe 8 character's worth. When I look at the other tabs, everything looks ok in those documents. Am I inadvertently hitting something that's shifting a hidden margin? Or something? Got any ideas? thx- Carole

I've never encountered this before Carole. Does it happen for every page you work on, or only for the pages you imported?

If this is occurring regularly, there are a couple of things you might want to try:

1. The default left margin width is 20. You can change this to a wider margin on the Options dialog. Set it to a higher value, and see if this has any impact.

2. Try switching off the left panel while you work (F11).

Nope- no luck on either option. I know that the characters are there (there are 5 missing on each line) because I can space through on the line before and move them ahead. I'm working in xp on this computer but was working in Vista on my main PC--I figured maybe it's a Vista import glitch.

I just remembered what kicked it off- I selected a word within the body of the copy in this one tab document and formatted it in bold type (because I can't figure out if the software has a highlighter which is what I really wanted?) That's when the left side began to shift out of view. I've played around with copy on the other tabs, and it doesn't happen in those docs.

Any other thoughts welcome and thanks- C

As it's only affecting a single page, it sounds like something has corrupted the underlying RTF file to which the page is saved.

Try creating a new page alongside the problem page, select all the text on the problem page, and copy and paste it into the new page.

Does the problem transfer across to the new page?

Once again, you're a genius! It worked! OK- save me looking this up, how do I switch back to the mode where notebooks show up on the left part of my screen. Thanks so much!
