Typing mid-word replaces what I just wrote

The title says it all. Every now and then I'll find that a document I'm working on switches to a setting where if one moves the blinking cursor mid-word, any character typed will delete the one after it. This makes it impossible to do editing of any kind.

I'm not sure it's a bug (I could just be accidentally pressing a button and not realize what I'm doing so I can't switch it back) but it definitely sucks. Anyone have any insight?

Just checked some of the other threads, so pre-emptively...

- I just bought a new Asus EEE PC netbook and that's what I've been using. It's a U.S. keyboard layout. I'm running Windows 7 starter.

It sounds like you're switching the text editing mode from insert to overwrite by mistake.

You need to find where the Insert key is on your Netbook, and ensure you don't toggle it by mistake.

Thanks Darren, that was it. Like I said, dumb question. Thanks again, I appreciate your response.
