"It is perfectly okay to write garbage — as long as you edit brilliantly."

8th October 2014 - PageFour Version 1.87.

Minor Release, addresses some issues with the Import process. Importing Notebooks or rolling back to an archive, in some circumstances caused the sort order of the pages and folders to be lost, resulting in a default alphabetical sort order being imposed on Notebooks. This has been corrected, but only for new imports or roll backs.

26th July 2012 - PageFour Version 1.84.

A minor release to connect PageFour with the new SmartEdit. An option on the Smart-Edit menu allows you to launch the new, stand-alone software from within PageFour for the currently open page. You must have SmartEdit installed for this option to be enabled - details below.

This new option works by closing the page within PageFour, and opening it in SmartEdit. The same file should not be open in both applications at the same time.

15th June 2012 - SmartEdit Version 1.003 released.

SmartEdit has been updated with two new options, a Save option so that any RTF files opened or copied can be edited and saved from within the application, and an adverb checker that highlights every adverb found (from a customisable list) in your work. Both of these additions make SmartEdit a more functional and usable application for real world editing.

A few points to note:

  1. The SmartEdit website documentation has not been updated, but the changes are obvious and shouldn't require explanation.
  2. SmartEdit is designed for creative writing. If you open a file with any unusual formatting (tables, footnotes, etc.), you can expect that extra formatting to be thrashed on saving.
  3. If the file you're opening contains EM dashes, see the update below this, and copy the DLL file mentioned into the SmartEdit install folder (Program Files/Bad Wolf Software/SmartEdit).

5th March 2009 - PageFour Version 1.70 Released

Version 1.70 comes with changes to the PageFour license agreement. Prior to v1.70, each PC on which PageFour was installed needed to have a separate license. This has now changed to allow for either a single PC with multiple users, or multiple PCs with a single user, and means that users working on more than a single PC do not now need to purchase a second license.

Further changes in this version include the following:

  • Support for the MS Word DOCX format when importing.
  • Changes to the Import Dialog: A folder within a Notebook can now be selected as the import destination, and the ability to quickly paste the import location rather than navigate the file tree is now allowed.
  • Major Bug Fix: Crashes had occurred when Unicode characters were selected in the Word Processor. This affected users writing in Chinese and Japanese languages, and has now been fixed.
  • Major Bug Fix: For a small number of users the Import Dialog failed to open. This is now fixed, and should not recur.
