This is the first beta of the upcoming release and includes changes to the Document Import dialog, full handling of the Word 2007 docx format, and other minor changes. It also introduces changes to the PageFour license agreement.

Version 1.65 is a minor release, and contains small changes to the interaction between the Notebook tree and the open Pages:

• New Page and New Folder buttons will now remain active, even when the tree is not in focus.
• The current open page in the word processor will always appear highlighted in the Notebook tree, making it easier to navigate pages. The only exception is if the current page belongs to a Notebook that is not open.
• The reason for these changes is to make it easier for new users to understand how PageFour is structured, and to eliminate any misunderstandings about where your new pages or folders are being created.
• Minor bug fix whereby certain Quick-Insert shortcuts changed line spacing settings in error.

Version 1.63 contains a number of minor changes as well as one new feature, all of which are documented on the PageFour blog. Those changes include:

• Overhaul of the way Smart Quotes are handled. They now work in the same way as MS Word.
• Quick-Insert shortcut keys for inserting characters, words, or phrases - all definable by the user.
• Insert Date shortcut (Ctrl+D), as well as global date format setup on the Options dialog.
• Option to apply background color to the Notebook list as well as the word processor.
• The Font dialog has been improved to allow any color to be chosen and set as the default, rather than the limited selection of only 8 colors.

Version 1.61 is an interim release, consisting of fixes for 2 bugs reported by users. The first corrects inconsistencies in the background colour of the word processor when the chosen colour is not white, and the second corrects an error in screen position when PageFour is used on a PC with dual monitors.

Existing users should be aware that if neither of these scenarios are relevant to the way they use PageFour, there is no reason to download or install the interim release.

A new page has been added for user reviews of PageFour. These reviews originally appeared on the writer's own blog or web-site, or on forums or download sites. Where possible, the original review is linked to, and in all cases the reviewer is either named, or a link provided to their blog or website.

The purpose of this page is to make it possible for new users, or potential users, to see what others think of the product before downloading or purchasing. Anonymous reviews or comments (John in Canada, for example), with no reference or link to the reviewer have not been posted, as it would be difficult for readers to have confidence in the authenticity of the review.

This release includes major improvements to the Searching ability of PageFour (across Notebooks), a new Merge Pages feature, handling of Smart Quotes for the first time, and many other minor enhancements and bug fixes.

The latest - and possibly final - beta version (1.55) has just been released. As well as all the features of 1.54 listed below, this beta contains the following new features and changes:

• Smart Quotes - option to switch smart (curly) quotes on and off.
• Control over left and right margins in the word processor.
• Option to change the background color of the word processor.
• All on / All off switch, with shortcut key - a quick method of closing all unnecessary screen real estate, making the word processor fill the screen.

The latest beta version (1.54) has just been released. This beta contains the following new features and changes:

• New Merge Pages feature - merges any number of PageFour Pages into a single Page.
• New Search feature - searches for text across a Notebook, or all Notebooks.
• Word Count has been enhanced to encompass entire folders, not just individual Pages.
• New 'Open in Tabs' option added. This allows a folder of Pages to be opened in separate tabs at a single click.
• Seldom used actions removed from the Notebooks right click menu (They still exist on the main menu).
• Minor bug fixes and corrections.

In light of the fact that many new PageFour users are writing in languages other than English, a series of dictonaries are now available for download. These will enable the spell-checker to work across a wide range of languages.

A new category has been added to the PageFour blog which will answer the questions most commonly asked by users, as well as offering explanations of existing features.

Support emails from users have highlighted a number of areas within PageFour that many users are either unaware of or do not fully understand. Each of these will be explained in detail on the blog over the coming weeks.

Features and changes in version 1.50 include:

• Smart-Edit. Automatic feature to scan for repeated phrases and words.
• Changes to Word Count dialog - not quite a rolling word count, but similar to MS Word's 'always on top' offering.
• Superscript and Strikeout options added to the Format menu.
• New button on Options dialog to allow users to specify which Notebooks form part of auto-archives.
• On rolling back or importing, only relevant Notebooks are archived in advance.
• Notebooks List - New right click menu options for adding a Folder or Page directly to the current Notebook. This fixes problems associated with adding new folders and pages to a 'full' Notebook.
• Change to New Folder and New Page buttons. They are now only enabled when the user has selected the Folder or Notebook to add the Page to. This is to reduce confusion over where the new Page or Folder will be created.
• Multi-select enabled for Notebooks List in the import and rollback dialog.
• Correction to Notebook scrolling problems on some operating systems.
• Correction to indentation problems for Numbered lists.

The trial version of PageFour will no longer be a 30 Day Trial. On first installation, a FREE EDITION will run, which has certain restrictions. It only allows for the creation of 3 Notebooks, with a maximum of 20 pages per Notebook. This change will allow people more time to try out PageFour before deciding whether or not to buy.

This version contains a single bug fix to the Print Template feature. The bug caused the page numbers to roll back to 1 for each new page when printing multiple pages or folders.

This version introduced major changes and improvements to the printing capabilities of PageFour, which included:

• Print Template feature.
• Full control over headers, footers and page numbers.
• Ability to print selected text on a page, and selected pages, or folders of pages in order.
• Easy, one click printer selection - ideal if you have more than one printer or print devices such as PDF writers installed.
